He obtained a Thèse de Sciences (1995) from the Université Paris 7 and carried out research at the CNRS on genome replication during embryonic development (1988-1998), at the Institut Jacques Monod, Paris.
He joined the Institut de Génétique Humaine in Montpellier in 1998, obtained a position as a research fellow at INSERM in 2004, obtained his habilitation to direct research in 2005, and was then elected for an INSERM AVENIR program in 2006, focusing his research on the mechanisms of aging. In 2011, he and his team demonstrated that CELLULAR AGING IS A REVERSIBLE PROCESS.
Co-Director of the IRMB since 2015, leads a team of around 20 people. Author of over 70 publications, he continues his work on understanding the mechanisms of aging and develops strategies aimed at restoring the functionality of tissues and organs altered by aging.
In 2022, he published a book entitled “Guérir la Vieillesse” (Healing Old Age), with a preface by Luc Ferry, philosopher and former French Minister. In it, he retraces his research into ageing and longevity, as well as his work on cellular reprogramming, rejuvenation and what we can expect in the future.
In 2024, he published “Décider de son âge” (Deciding on your age), published by Editions Allary, in which he explains his vision of a new medicine for longevity, which he hopes to implement in the Institut de la Longévité en bonne Santé (Institute for Healthy Longevity).
